Nancy Winter, 88

Nancy Winter, 88, a former resident of Marion, Iowa, peacefully passed away on March 7th, 2023, in Bella Vista, Arkansas, with family at her side. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 30, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment of cremains will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Nancy was born to Dorothy and Leslie Fink, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 30, 1934. Inspired by her maternal grandmother Lula, Nancy attended Nurses Training Courses at Coe College, Cedar Rapids. She adored her classmates and her chosen vocation. As happened back in the 50s, a nursing candidate should not be married. This time, love won out, and she married Don Winter; together, they raised their three children. As the children grew and attended school, Nancy returned to medical studies in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, after which she enjoyed working as a medical assistant, and later as a physician’s assistant.

The couple divorced later in life and Nancy moved to California, where she found work as an underwriter for Sear’s Savings Bank. Some years later, she returned to Cedar Rapids. After a bumpy beginning, with a temporary job or two, Nancy found her niche, as a medical receptionist. She cherished her group of coworkers, and the day-to-day tasks they accomplished as a professional team. Her fingers flew, when she moved to transcription, the position in which she happily remained, until retiring from PCI ENT. As a woman of leisure, Nancy enjoyed unlimited free time with friends and family. She was a huge fan of sleeping late into the morning, as she often read late into the night. She looked forward to Saturday Markets at Taube Park, movies on the big screen, IPTV at home in the evenings or phone calls with friends who were at a distance. She enjoyed browsing clearance items at Von Maur, always stopping to enjoy their piano music. Nancy would often lunch at Biaggi’s, hoping for a spot by their fireplace. She looked forward to Tuesdays and Fridays when she would join friends inside Marion’s Hy-Vee for a hot cup of Starbucks Pike and a warm scone. She was a Foodie who enjoyed new items on a menu. She loved getting together with neighbors in her building, enjoyed a small glass of a new wine, and a piece of dark chocolate or two (maybe three)!

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Leslie, as well as her brother Lloyd.

She is survived by her sisters Brenda and Jolene, children: Holly, Susan and Todd. Grandchildren: Jessica, Joshua, Jacqueline, Whitney and Lacey. Great grandchildren: Josten, Jaxton and Kayden; nieces, nephews and many, many loving friends.
