Martin Johnson

Martin Andrew Johnson, 72, of Traer, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, November 24, 2023.

Martin was born on August 19, 1951, in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Dale and Wilma (McNabb) Johnson. Following high school graduation, Martin attended Westmar University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in education. On October 24, 1987, Martin was united in marriage to Sherri Ann Heath at Marengo, Iowa. They lovingly raised two daughters in Traer. Martin taught Art and Industrial Technology for over thirty years for the North Tama Junior and Senior High School system. He retired in 2010. Martin showed incredible strength in the past few years as he battled medical issues. He was blessed in 2022 to receive a kidney transplant.

Martin enjoyed reading, tending to his vegetable garden, going on RV trips with Sherri, playing with his grandson, drawing and artwork, caring for his kitty and most of all, spending time with his family.

Martin is survived by the love of his life and soulmate for over thirty-six years, Sherri; two daughters, Dr. Brooke Erin Johnson, of Waverly, and Dr. Arianne Michelle Johnson-Calvopina with her husband, Andres Calvopina, of Fairfax, Iowa; a grandson, Andrew Cesar Calvopina; a sister, Marcy Stinnett, of Ventura, California; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rodney Johnson and his sister, Susan Hogue.

At a later date, Martin’s loved ones will be having a private celebration of his life. Memorials in his name may be directed to the Tama County Humane Society or the National Kidney Foundation with checks payable to NKF Serving Iowa and sent to National Kidney Foundation HQ.
