Margaret Brinkmeyer

Margaret Brinkmeyer, 96, passed away on December 17, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on July 11, 1927, in Dysart, Iowa, to Howard and Bernice (Clause) Barnes. Margaret attended school in Dysart graduating from Dysart High School in 1945. She attended Cornell College and the University of Iowa graduating in 1950. While there she was a member of the University Chorus and the Scottish Highlanders. On September 14th, 1950, she married Kermit Brinkmeyer. They moved to Dysart in 1959 when Kermit joined her brother Bill Barnes in the family hardware business. Margaret taught piano lessons for 38 years. She was a member of the Dysart United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and directing the Bell Choir for over twenty years. Margaret was a member of Rebekah Circle, the Dysart Women’s Club and several bridge clubs. Margaret also performed with the Harmonettes musical group, singing and playing the marimba and piano, entertaining around the state. After making their home in Dysart for 50 years, Margaret and Kermit moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 2009.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson Blake Bateson and her brother Bill Barnes. She is survived by three daughters: Lyn (Doug) Griffin, of Springfield, Oregon, Janet (Brian) Bateson, of Maitland, Florida, Gail (Mark) Uhlenberg, of St. Louis, Missouri, a brother-in-law Philip Brinkmeyer and two sisters-in-law Arlene Brinkmeyer and Joan Barnes. Margaret is grandmother to six grandchildren: Mark Griffin, Laura Griffin Holladay, Krista Griffin Martin, Brea Bateson Reger, Andy Uhlenberg and Megan Uhlenberg Fjellanger and has nineteen great grandchildren.

Visitation: Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, at Dysart United Methodist Church, 602 Tilford St., Dysart, Iowa.

Funeral Service: Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:30 am, at Dysart United Methodist Church.
