Edwin Baldwin

LA PORTE CITY-Edwin A. Baldwin, 87, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at La Porte City Specialty Care, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Geneseo Methodist Church, Buckingham, with Pastor Jim Turner as officiant. Burial: Westview Cemetery, La Porte City. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton, is caring for Edwin and his family.

Edwin, son of David Olin and Celia (Hall) Baldwin, was born February 10, 1936, on a farm near Marion. He attended grade school in Missouri and graduated from Dysart High School in 1953. On June 10, 1956, Edwin was united in marriage to Beverly Jones at Pratt Creek Church, rural Benton County. Together they shared a lifetime of farming. After retiring from farming, Edwin worked several years for Performance Carbide, Waterloo.

In childhood, Edwin attended Assembly of God Church and was currently a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gatherings for card clubs with his friends and couples club group at church, feeding and watching birds (especially cardinals), and watching TV and movie videos. After retirement from farming, Edwin continued to repair farm equipment and drive a truck to the elevator during harvest.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly, of La Porte City; daughter, Denise Baldwin, of West Des Moines; son, David Baldwin, of La Porte City; two sisters: Joan Anders, of Newhall, and Pat (Larry) Davis, of Urbandale; and brother-in-law, Gary Schulke, of Flagstaff, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Faye Cummings, Nola Lindahl and Marlene Schulke; brothers-in-law: William Cummings, Alvin Lindahl, Don Werning and Don Anders; and nephews, Craig Cummings and Doug Cummings.

A memorial fund has been established.
