Larry Spencer

BUCKINGHAM – Larry J. Spencer, 84, of Buckingham, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo. He was born February 10, 1939, in Garrison, Iowa, son of Joseph Marshall and Hazel (Davis) Spencer. He graduated from Wadena High School in 1957.

Larry J. Spencer and Carol K. Gibson were married on January 17, 1959, and celebrated 62 years together. Carol passed on January 1, 2022. To this union, they were blessed with five children. He worked as a welder at John Deere Manufacturing until his retirement in 1995. Larry loved to tinker, and fix things in his garage. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden. His hands were always busy.

He is survived by his three sons: Bart (Lynne Feller) Spencer, of rural Charles City, Jeffery (Helen) Spencer, of Jurupa, California, and Brett (Carina) Spencer, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two daughters, Kimberly Spencer Peverill, of Norcross, Georgia, and Julie (late Angel Bonilla) Spencer, of Juncos, Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren: Christopher Spencer, USAF, Brandon Peverill, Cassandra Spencer, Colin Spencer, Wesley Spencer and Luis (Danileliza) Bonilla; one brother, Paul (Judy) Spencer, of Waterloo; and one sister, Janette “Kathy” (Clint) Dray, of Tucson, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; son-in-law, Angel Bonilla; one brother, David Spencer and one sister, Carol Joyce Freeman.

As per Larry's wishes, there will be no services or visitation. Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice. Locke at Tower Park, 319-233-3146, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo, is assisting the family.
