Omar Martinez

Omar Reyes Martinez, Sr., 54, of Clutier, IA, died peacefully next to his wife on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, at his parent's home in Mexico City after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Durango, Mexico, on May 7th, 1969, to Arturo and Celia Reyes, Omar was raised in Mexico City, Mexico. Omar's father, Arturo was a pilot and during his childhood, he traveled the world, seeing many different countries and cultures.

Omar came to the United States at the age of 20, working along the West Coast before arriving in Iowa in 1994. Omar met and later married his lifelong love, Candy Sue Jones, in 1995 and raised 5 children together in Clutier, IA. Omar worked various jobs before spending a 24-year career as a concrete mixer driver. He was also a member of the Clutier Fire Department for 10 years as a first responder and firefighter. Omar was a hard-working and devoted family man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Omar was known for his exceptional tact and ability to communicate with everyone he met; always possessing the poise of a professional even during critical incidents. A virtuous man whose impact will be dearly missed by those that knew him. He was a loving friend, father, husband, brother and fighter until the end.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 28 years, Candy Martinez, his five children: Nathan Jones, Trey Keahna, Omar Martinez Jr., Kristina Roberts (Martinez), Alicia Martinez and his only grandchild, Emberlynn Serafin, as well as his relatives in Mexico City, Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo Sr. and Celia Reyes, and his brother, Arturo Reyes.

A celebration of life will be held for him on April 20th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p. m. at the Clutier Community Center. Please come as you are and bring a dish to share.
