Norma Corbin
Norma Janice Corbin was born May 31, 1928, in Franklin County, Iowa, daughter of Lewis and Lydia (Althen) Kratz. She attended grade school in Bradford, Iowa, and high school in Iowa Falls. Jan graduated in 1949, with an RN Degree, from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She married Robert Shroyer on March 12, 1950. Two sons were born to the union, Donald Allen Shroyer and James Robert Shroyer. The couple farmed the Shroyer farm, four miles south of Hampton, Iowa, on HWY #65, until Robert’s death in 1959 from a tractor-truck accident. Later, Janice married Roger D. Corbin, of Latimer, Iowa. In 1963, they moved with their family to Traer, Iowa.
Jan worked at Drs. Johnson, Johnson & Parker Office in Iowa Falls, Lutheran Hospital in Hampton, the Traer Convalescent Home, she was the Director of Nursing at Roberts Waterloo Care Center and employed at the North Tama Medical Clinic in Traer for over 20 years. Jan was a faithful member of the Traer United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the United Methodist Women and Dorcas Circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Traer Golf Club, American Home Club and Friends of the Library.
Jan passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her first husband; her son, James Robert Shroyer; two daughters, Rella Jean Shipman and Barbara L. Whitesell; a grandson, Daniel Huting; a son-in-law, Tom Whitesell; and a daughter-in-law, Lois Corbin. Jan is survived by her husband, Roger, of Traer; four sons, Donald (Barbara) Shroyer, of Hudson, Michael (Barbara) Corbin, of Owasso, Oklahoma, Dennis Corbin, of Rose Hill, Kansas and Paul (Kathy) Corbin, of Lakeville, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Memorial Visitation: Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Traer United Methodist Church, 712 4th St., Traer, Iowa.
