Dennis Fitzhugh

Dennis “Denny” Eugene Fitzhugh, 76, of Corinth, Texas was called home to Our Lord and received his wings on May 23, 2025.

He was born May 10, 1949 in Maryville, Missouri, the Son of Gail and Rachel Fitzhugh. He cherished his childhood on the farm outside Bedford, Iowa and would recall countless fond memories. Later he moved to Waterloo Iowa where he attended East High school and graduated in1967.

After graduation, he attended Barber school and enjoyed barbering for 15 years. He later continued his education at Kirkwood Community College receiving his waste water operator license and then worked for the City of Waterloo for 10 years.

Denny married the love of his life, Vicky Ebaugh, on October 7, 1989 and they made their home in Waterloo, IA. They later moved to Tennessee where he worked for White Lily Flour until retirement. After retiring, Denny and Vicky moved to Texas to be closer to family. It wasn’t long after moving to Texas you would find him as a Walmart greeter. It was there where he got to do what he loved, striking up a conversation with anyone, turning strangers into friends and bringing smiles to those he met.

Denny loved to bowl and could always be found at the local bowling allies, Cadillac Lanes and Maple Lanes as well as the traveling league. His face would light up when he recalled the adventures he and Vicky shared with other couples on these trips. Throughout his bowling career, Denny’s achievements included numerous 300 rings and awards. He also enjoyed going to movies, watching football, golf and WWE wrestling, which began when he was a little boy watching with his Grandmother. Denny found great joy in playing a competitive hand of cards, “stirring the pot” and looking up new recipes to make and share with others. Above all, he treasured the time spent with family, friends and neighbors along with their furbabies. Denny had a soft spot for his furry friends and treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were.

Denny, Big D or Superman, as he was affectionately known by those close to him, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. Those who knew Denny will remember him for his infectious smile, overwhelming laughter and the love he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them, and if you knew him, you knew it. He had a rare gift of making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gail and Rachel Fitzhugh, his paternal and maternal grandparents and his furbabies Lassitta, Cherries, Dumps, Jax and Miracle.

Denny is survived by his Wife Vicky of Corinth, Texas, Brother Roy Dale (Valinda) Fitzhugh, of Des Moines, IA, Daughter Malissa Harper, 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews as well as very dear friends and their furbabies.

A Celebration of Life with family and close friends will be held at a later date in Texas and Iowa with burial at Amity Cemetery in Iowa providing a final resting place.
