James “Jim” Snow
TRAER-James R. “Jim” Snow, 93, of Traer, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. It was Jim and Ramona’s wish to be cremated and they will have a combined Memorial Service in the future, after she passes. Their cremains will then be interred together at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.
James was born on April 12, 1933, at home in rural Traer, Iowa, the son of Harvey E. and Norma M. (Sievers) Snow.
In 1952, he graduated from Dinsdale High School and was on the Dinsdale State Basketball team in 1950 and 1952.
James served his country in the U.S. Airforce for four years as a Jet engine and Airframe instructor during the Korean War.
On July 26, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ramona Vanicek at the Traer Methodist Church. Jim worked at John Deere in Waterloo and then moved to the country and farmed. In 1970, they moved to Traer and he worked as Service Manager for Ray Holst John Deere dealership.
Jim was a member of the American Legion, Traer United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He served many years on the Traer Ambulance. Jim enjoyed puzzles and antique John Deere Tractors.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona of Traer; daughter, Nancy (Kurt) Weber of Adrian, MI; daughter-in-law, Angie Snow of Austin, TX; grandson, Joshua Snow; granddaughter, Kayla Snow; two brothers, Bill (Jan) Snow of Winston-Salem, NC, and Dale (Chris) Snow of Seattle, WA; one sister, Margaret Ramsey of Roanoke, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Jonathan Snow; brother, Bob Snow; sister, Betty (Dick) Coleman; and brother-in-law, Gary Ramsey.
Memorials may be directed to the Traer United Methodist Church.
