Jacqueline Westbrook

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Jacqueline (Jackie) Westbrook (Nagel), 86, on October 7, 2025, in Redding, California, after a brave battle with metastatic breast cancer. In her final moments, she was lovingly surrounded by her daughter and grandson, and she had a cherished visit with her son just weeks before her passing.

Born in 1939 in Atlantic, Iowa, Jackie grew up in Traer after her parents, Jack and Marian Nagel, moved there in 1946. Her parents owned Nagel Radio and T.V. in Traer, and Jackie fondly remembered her childhood with her two brothers. During high school, she enjoyed singing with a group and shared joyful times with her close-knit group of friends known as “The Crazy 8's.”

Following high school, Jackie married Jon Alan Hilbert from Traer, and they welcomed two children, Kurt and Kayla. Eventually, they relocated to California, settling in San Jose. In the early 1970s, Jackie and Jon divorced.

After completing her college education, Jackie dedicated 20 years of her life to working as a speech therapist in the Moreland School District in San Jose, California.

In 1978, Jackie met Ray Westbrook, and their love blossomed as they discovered many shared interests. They married and later retired to Paradise, California, where they created countless happy memories. They both enjoyed water skiing on Lake Oroville, volunteered at the local library and cherished weekly gatherings with their best friends and neighbors for outings, dominoes and cards. Even after the devastating loss of their homes in the 2018 Camp Fire, their friendships remained strong. After the fire Jackie and Ray moved to Redding, California.

Following the passing of her beloved husband Ray in 2024, Jackie was determined to live life to the fullest, despite her cancer. In her final year, she chose to move to an independent senior apartment community, where she made many new friends and enjoyed various activities and outings. She also was able to go on several really fun mother-daughter trips, creating wonderful experiences and memories.

Jackie is survived by her two children, Kurt Hilbert, Kayla Hilbert; her brother, Steven Nagel (Marie); grandson, Jason; granddaughter, Rhaya; 3 great-grandchildren, Ezra, Lucius and Iyla; three nieces, Jolie, Anastasia and Aurora; nephew, John; great-nephew, Bobby; and sisters-in-law, Marie (Steve) and Marilyn (Jon).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Westbrook; her mother, Marian Nagel; her father, Jack Nagel; her brother, Jon Nagel (Marilyn) and her nephew, Jeffery Nagel (Jon and Marilyn’s son).

Jackie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her enthusiastic and friendly personality, her energetic spirit and her positive outlook on life, among many other cherished qualities.
