Marshall Hilmer
DYSART: Marshall Kent Hilmer, 74, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dysart Community Building lower level.
Marshall was born in Waterloo, Iowa on January 28, 1952 to Robert and Lorraine (Petersen) Hilmer. He graduated from Dysart-Geneseo in 1971. Marshall was united in marriage to Lynda Lassen in 1981, and had 3 beautiful children together. Later they divorced. He was again united in marriage on July, 13, 2002, to Jackie Boddicker, who passed away in 2018.
He worked most of his life in construction, and was self-employed for a long time. He retired with Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids in 2019. He also worked as a front straightaway race official in Farley, Dubuque, and West Liberty. Marshall loved dirt track racing and Nascar. He loved working in his garage and building things. He played slow pitch softball, and he loved watching his grandsons play sports.
Marshall is survived by his children, Celena (Marc) Bahr of Dysart, Abby (Brantley) Paige of Evansdale, and Bill Hilmer of Montrose, MN; his grandsons, Jacob, Zachary, Lane, and Vincent; and his siblings, Scott (Penny) Hilmer of Boone, Stacey (Dennis) Dabney of Dysart, Robbie (Kim) Hilmer of Dysart, and Curt Hilmer of Dysart; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lorraine; and his wife, Jackie Boddicker-Hilmer.
