William Briggs

William (Bill) Briggs, of Cedar Rapids, entered into his final rest on September 17, 2026 at the age of 99, surrounded by family members. Visitation will be held at Teahen Funeral Home on September 25th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and a service will be held on September 26th at 10:00 am, also to be held at Teahen Funeral Home.

Bill was born on April 19, 1927 in Traer Iowa to Harry and Agnes Briggs. Bill was the youngest of seven and graduated from Traer High School in 1945. He joined the U.S. Navy, during WWII, where he was deployed to the Philippines and transported army tanks to China. He was honorably discharged in June, 1946. Bill then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI), where he met and married Betty Jane McCabe in 1947. The Couple settled in Cedar Rapids and started their family of four children. They belonged to Christ Church, Presbyterian where Bill served as a Deacon for many years. They enjoyed their busy and wonderful lives with their children and grandchildren and also traveled the world.

Bill joined the Masonic Order in 1949 and served as Master of his lodge in 1957. In 1988 the couple moved to Washington D.C. Where Bill was the Official Host to the Eastern Star Headquarters for 15 years. Bill and Betty were happily married for 78 years!

Bill is survived by his loving wife Betty, son Don Briggs (Dianna), of Cedar Falls, daughter Janice Gianni (Dan), of Windsor, CA, son Dick Briggs (Susan), of Cedar Rapids, grandson Will Langdon (Sarah), grandson Kyle Briggs (Sarah), granddaughter Lauren Briggs, and great granddaughter Eleanor Langdon. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Dreanna Briggs Langdon (Lanny), of Manteca, CA.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Bill in his name for a charity of their choosing.
