The Dengler Domain: Game Shows
Since the dawn of television, genres have come and gone. Westerns were once popular, but they have vanished from today’s programming schedule. Variety shows are experiencing a rebirth, but they are also still mostly a show of the past. One genre has always had proven success. This genre is game shows. Anything happens in this genre, making for the best television. Game shows are cheaper to produce and filled with drama. In today’s modern television world, The Price is Right is my game show of choice. Older game shows intrigue me, and I want to find out which show best suits me.
The first game show is Match Game. The difficulty of this show is hard. At times the phrases and words would be easy to match, it is still difficult thinking the same thought as another person. More wit is involved than luck unlike most games on The Price is Right. The interaction with multiple celebrities would make being on this show fun. Participating on this show as an everyday Joe with celebrities would brighten anyone’s day. After matching answers with numerous celebrities, I would have a closer connection to show business.
The next game show is the longest-running primetime network television game show, What’s My Line? This show’s difficulty is not hard because it is about being probed with questions by famous celebrities. Answering questions is not hard, and it would be a fun have celebrities guess my occupation. Seeing the interaction between the host, John Daly, and the celebrity panel would be exciting. A special mystery guest round provided the chance to meet another famous person. This show did not have much of a cash prize so the show was played for pure entertainment.
The last game show is Password. The difficulty of this game show is sky high. Guessing the correct word would not be fun in the high pressured environment of the show. Money is on the line and letting down a celebrity would be not good. Being on this show would be fun because of the art of guessing a word. Playing with a celebrity as a regular contestant would be a treat. This two-person tandem creates interesting dynamics. This type of duo requires quick bonding, and every moment crucially counts. Going head to head against the other team would be hard because the game is based on intelligence. This game is about being on the same wavelength which is hard task.
Participating in all these game shows would be fun because they are different than today’s game shows. Each show consists of playing with celebrities, and this does not happen in today’s game show world. This tradition should come back today’s game show broadcasts. Watching Hollywood Squares as a child was thrilling because I loved the celebrities messing with each other and the contestant. Celebrities on game shows should exist and not be relegated to old episodes found on the vastness of the internet or old VHS tapes.
Finally, the revealing of my answer. What game show would I go on? I choose Password. I love competition and the highest stakes, high pressured environment on this show. While it might be stressful, the reward of winning on this show is greatest. Guessing each word and beating a similar team requires strong will. The most important part of this show I like is the cooperative effort. It would have been a tremendous experience to be on this show.
