The Sires Sentinel: Summer Update
Dave Sires (R-Cedar Falls).
Hello, District 38! As summer winds down, I wanted to share some highlights from the season. After session ended, I traveled down to Des Moines to visit with school field trips at the Capitol, one of my favorite things to do as a lawmaker, since the students always have great questions and bring a lot of energy.
Lisa and I also enjoyed exploring all the town festivals in our district, from small-town parades to community events, and sometimes even ventured into small towns just outside our area to support local gatherings.
During the Laporte City Festival of Trails, our golf cart had a battery issue and stalled right in the middle of the festivities, but thanks to the fantastic folks at Motorhead Mayhem, we were back on the road in no time. That’s what Iowa’s communities are all about: neighbors helping neighbors.
We’ve also been hitting some car shows, with Lisa even winning a trophy at Sturgis Falls in Cedar Falls. She’s always such a crowd favorite! We visited the Dunkerton car show too and it was very impressive and full of classic cars.
Summer has also been a special time for family; we had granddaughters visiting for a week, and we took them to Lost Island Theme Park. I even rode some rides with them, which was a lot of fun. The ticket booth wanted to see our IDs in order to give us the senior discount. Apparently they didn’t really need to see mine but doubted that Lisa was really old enough for the discount.
While summer fun is great, my work for constituents never stops. If you’re having trouble with state agencies, please reach out and I’m always happy to help. And with election season approaching, remember to follow the money. Knowing who donates to candidates helps you understand who they owe favors to. You can check out the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board for state races and the FEC website for federal candidates. Stay informed, and Lisa and I hope you’ve enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing summer filled with family, community, and good times!
