There is more good work ahead, and I am ready to do it

Amanda Kriegel.

My name is Amanda Kriegel, and I have served as Tama County Treasurer since April 2022. I am continuing my candidacy for Treasurer as a write-in candidate in this year’s general election, and I want Tama County residents to know more about my record, my experience and what I hope to accomplish over the next four years.

I first stepped into this office in 2022 when the county needed someone to take on the responsibilities of Treasurer. Later that year, Tama County voters elected me to a full term. I hold a degree in accounting and have spent 18 years working in finance with private businesses and state and county governments. During the past four years, I have deepened my knowledge of the Treasurer’s Office while leading a staff of dedicated professionals.

The work of the Treasurer’s Office touches nearly every part of county government and provides services residents rely on every day. Our responsibilities include safeguarding public funds and maintaining accurate financial records, along with property taxes, motor vehicle services and driver’s license administration.

One thing I am especially proud of is the increased interest earned on county funds. During the past four years, our team has actively sought better opportunities and better interest rates for those funds. As a result, the county is projected to earn more than $2.3 million in interest during my time in office. That is more than three times the $563,000 generated during the previous four years.

We continue to identify opportunities available through the state to generate additional revenue for the county. That revenue helps offset the cost of operating the Treasurer’s Office and reduces the amount that must otherwise be supported by taxpayers.

Stability also matters. Since I took office in the spring of 2022, 10 county departments have experienced changes in leadership, along with major organizational changes elsewhere in our county government.

Through all of that change, I have remained in the Treasurer’s Office, working alongside our staff and other county departments while developing four years of institutional knowledge. There is valuable time and effort involved in learning the responsibilities, systems and relationships that allow a county office to operate effectively. My first term has given our office consistency during a period when much of Tama County government has been adjusting to new leadership and new structures.

Looking ahead, my priorities remain straightforward:

-To protect every public dollar.

-To promote transparency and accountability.

-To provide dependable and respectful service.

-To maintain strong financial practices that support the county today and prepare it for the future.

-And to serve every resident fairly, responsibly and without favoritism.

I also believe county government should be understandable and approachable. Financial processes can be complicated, but residents deserve clear answers and timely assistance. I support modern, secure systems while making sure personal service remains a priority.

I love this job, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished during my first term. I accepted this responsibility in 2022 because Tama County needed someone willing to step forward, and I remain committed for the long haul. I believe there is more progress to be made and more that our team can accomplish in the years ahead.

There is more good work ahead, and I am ready to do it.
