Loeb cancer benefit Mar. 29

Zach Loeb, who is a graduate of our very own Union High School, has had a few rough bumps in the road lately. Zach currently lives in La Porte city with his wife Ashlie. Zach and Ashlie got married not long ago, in August of 2011.

They have been enjoying life as newlyweds so far. They are also excited to be expecting a new baby. While most people who are expecting a child are busy planning the nursery and baby shower, Zach and Ashlie have a lot more on their plate to handle.

On January 3, 2014 Zach was diagnosed with an uncommon form of testicular cancer. Zach’s unique kind of cancer, which is called Sertoli, is very rare. Because of its rarity, there is no current radiation or chemo treatment available.

Zach’s best option is to have surgery that will remove the lymph nodes. As with any surgery, there are many risks and side effects, and with this type of surgery of course infertility is one of them. Zach’s surgery will be on March 7, 2014, in Rochester, MN.

Unfortunately the troubles do not stop here for this young couple. Only five days after they learned of Zach’s testicular cancer they were told that their unborn child has multiple cysts on his left kidney, which was causing the kidney to also fail. The doctors are unsure what could be causing this, and exactly what to do about it.

Two days before Zach’s surgery in Rochester, the family will be headed to Iowa City for some testing on their unborn child. These tests will hopefully be able to provide information on the extent of the baby’s kidney failure and what will need to be done once he is born.

Now is our chance to stand behind this local family and show them support! There will be a benefit on March 29th, 2014 at the Dysart Country Club. The benefit will begin at 4 pm. The money raised at the benefit will help with some of the mounting medical bills that Zach and Ashlie are dealing with.

Between Zach’s surgery and whatever they may need to do for their son the medical bills are only going to keep adding up.

If you are unable to attend to benefit but would like to donate money, or even something for auction you can do that too! If you are able to attend the benefit, it will have food, live music, an auction and more! Anyone who would like to donate something to auction can contact Jamie Bucknell 319-215-9169 or email Jamie at Bucknell.jamie@gmail.com.
