UMS Band members earn high marks

Highly Superior Rating Award Winners: Cade Rahlf and Emily Schmidt.

Several Union Middle School Band members participated in the NEIBA Solo Ensemble Contest on March 6th, 2014. The contest was a great success. Red ribbons and “Excellent” ratings were awarded to 6th grader Emma Shirk on clarinet, 7th graders Hunter Stwalley on tuba solo, Mason Scott on baritone solo, Karson Hennings on trumpet solo, and 8th grader Lyric Dutton on clarinet solo. Blue ribbons and “Superior” ratings were awarded to 6th graders Carlie Hoppe on alto saxophone solo, Emma Carlson on trumpet solo, Lillie Wrobel on alto saxophone solo, Madison Frush on trumpet solo, Rachel Hellman on clarinet solo, Teagan Prouse on flute solo, 7th graders Allie Carty on flute solo, Megan Carty on flute solo, Carter Spore on trombone solo, Hunter Klima on clarinet solo, Kody Crawford on alto saxophone solo, Ben Rempe on multiple percussion solo, Scarlett Ellsworth on clarinet solo, Valerie Ryan on saxophone solo, 8th grader Wesley Hanson on timpani solo. Two performances were chosen for the “Highly Superior” Rating and awarded gold ribbons. Recipients of the Highly Superior ratings were 8th grade alto saxophone player Emily Schmidt for her performance of “Slavonic Dance No. 3” by Forrest L. Buchtel and 8th grade trumpet player Cade Rahlf for his performance of “Vega” by Vander Cook. Bill Livingston judged the contest and Mary Aschenbrenner and Amy Wrobel accompanied the students on piano. Congratulations to all of these students on their successful performances.
