Raffle & Luminaria support Relay for Life

Did you know that in Tama County this year, there will be 120 NEW cases of people being diagnosed with cancer?? Relay for Life is for those people! Each person attending the Tama County Relay will do it for someone special. Every dollar raised is one more step to less cancer and more birthdays!

The Tama County Relay for Life will be Saturday, June 14, noon-10 p.m. at the South Tama H.S. track. Music will fill the air as folks walk the track, eat good food, and celebrate fighting back against cancer. Fun activities will fill the afternoon: bean bag toss, ladder ball, and more for kids of all ages.

Fundraising for the Relay for Life is ongoing in every community in Tama County. Raffle tickets and Luminaria may be purchased in local spots and from any team member listed below. An order form for Luminaria appears in this newspaper.

Luminaria are lanterns lit to represent those lost to cancer and those who have survived. A special ceremony is held at dusk to honor and remember each person whose name is on a Luminaria.

Raffle tickets can be purchased for a beautiful handmade quilt, a metal sculpture of a rose, a mattress set, or a hot air balloon ride. The quilt is currently on display in the Traer Public Library. The drawing will take place at the Relay for Life, but you need not be present to win.

Anyone interested in making a Luminaria donation or walking in the Survivors Lap may do so. For more information contact Ashley Bolen, Tama/Toledo, 641-484-0204; Marilyn Svoboda, Clutier, 319-479-2732; Karen Symonds, Dysart, 319-476-7762; Luane Lorenzen, Traer, 319-231-0820.
