This year’s Festival of Trails Parade is sure to be a crowd pleaser. . If you have never been out for the town parade, this would be the year to attend. Each year upwards of 5000 people line the streets for the Parade which is double the population. We are expecting an even bigger turn out this year

The committee has met every week since January, and have really enjoyed getting together and brainstorming for some unique entries. In keeping with the theme “Looking Back and Moving Forward”, we have put together a montage that will be a pleasant sur-prise for many. The lineup has something for everyone. Here are just a few of the highlights in this year’s parade.

The Cedar Valley Derby Divas will also be rolling through town and when they finish the parade they are headed to the beer tent to serve up some fun there. The Pub Brawlers have a pretty busy schedule with there skating and community involvement, we are lucky to have them in our lineup.

We also have a local celebrity of sorts, Bob Hill aka “Hillbilly Bob and Old Ruthie”. Hillbilly Bob has traveled all over this country for the last 20 years through 41 states, with his 1929 Model A- Ford “Old Ruthie”. Hillbilly Bob will have people rolling with laugh-ter while Old Ruthie shows off some of her tricks. Bob is from rural Dysart where his family has farmed for 161 years.

Miss Sydney, Iowa Rodeo Queen, Hannah Hilsabeck, will be with us also. The Sydney Rodeo is a big deal rodeo and has been around since 1923. They have one of the best facilities in the country and boast 38,000 visitors for their 5 day event, and we honored to have her join us.

We also will have several area business, and groups. A Civil War Band, numerous cars and tractors, and some famous and not so famous characters roaming the streets. I have even heard there has been an Elvis sighting.

And if that doesn’t get you to town, the parade will be followed by one of the largest Fireworks displays in the area with some of the effects that have never been done in the state of Iowa.

Be sure to put us on your calendar of things to do that weekend you will not be sorry
