The Community Building Fundraiser has been making great strides, and has almost made its goal! As most of you know the city of Dysart has been raising money and applying for grants so the community building can have some renovations done and also some additional renovations to the city park. A couple weeks ago there was a very special fund-raiser that was held. Jackie Hennessy and Pat Hansen are the two main people to thank for this wonderful event. For the past several months, different people including mayor Pam Thiele have been making monthly trips to Des Moines to speak on behalf of Dysart and apply for the grants. In April Jackie and Pat went along with Pam. On the way home they were brainstorming ideas of how to raise more money.

A while back they had both attended a wonderful luncheon at a local church, this inspired their whole idea. They decided to host a themed luncheon at the community building. Volunteers were able to donate money to reserve a table for themselves and 8 friends. They were all encouraged to pick a theme and decorate their table. You could see the wonderful imaginations of Dysart come to life with these beautiful themed tables! There was just about everything you could think of, from 4th of July, Christmas, Iowa State Cyclones, Garden Party, formal and many many more.

Guests started arriving around 10:30 and there was plenty to check out. People were walking around, chatting and looking at all the beautiful tables. There were mimosas for donation as well as a raffle prize. You could purchase 6 raffle tickets for 5 dollars, and all proceeds from the entire event went directly to the community building fund. Mayor Pam Thiele spoke at the luncheon as well. She took everyone on a trip down memory lane. Speaking of all the things that the community building has been used for. There has been countless school dances, wedding receptions, card clubs, recitals and more. We use this building to vote, and it also houses our Police Department. One interesting note that Pam brought up was that original funding for the building began in 1936 and it only took 6 months to raise the funds. The construction began in early 1937 and by July 30th the building was complete.

The door prize winners were Phyllis Dunlap, Aubri Hansen, Dottie Riepe, Cindi Karr, Dee Roseke, Marcia Knupp, Jean Karpisek, Marcy Knaack, Vie Flesher and Doris Parizek. Congradulations ladies, they all took home a $10 Dysart Dollar gift cards, which were donated by the DDC.

The winner of the raffle prizes are as follows. The metal sculpture was won by Pat Karr. There was a wine and assorted dip basket which was won by Barb Weiben. A random assortment basket donated by the Blue Hats was won by Sharleen Overton. There was beautiful handmade place mats which were won by Pat Karr, and also a cement candle holder and plant, which was won by Cheryl Korte. Congrats everyone!
