The 7th Annual Benton County Farm Bureau Cookout Contest is set for Saturday July 26th at the fairgrounds in Vinton. This will be in conjunction with the Benton County Fair activities. There is no cost to enter the contest; although pre-registration is requested. Bill Newton, Contest Coordinator, says this fun contest is to promote quality Iowa meat and you do not have to be a professional cook to participate. Judging of entries will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and the grilling categories are beef, pork, lamb, poultry, turkey and combo/specialty. Cash prizes will be given to 1st place in each category and to a Grand Champion winner. These 1st place winners will have the opportunity to compete with the same winning recipe at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Cookout Contest in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fair on Tuesday August 12, 2014.
