Union students, staff enter new phase of learning with Chromebooks

Union High School staff and students are very excited about the Chromebook distribution that took place on Monday, September 29. In May, the school board voted to support the students and staff with one computer for each student. This was the result of a three year process involving much research and discussion. There was a constant need for computer usage at the high school and often teachers would have to change lesson plans because of computer availability. Education is an evolving ever adapting to changes in technology and student learning styles. Computer access will provide students with opportunities to make connections outside of the school walls and school hours.

Staff members began to explore the idea of providing all students with some sort of technological device several years ago. The first year, all staff had the opportunity to visit other schools that had already made this transition, and several attended conferences that focused on exploring this option. Staff professional development last school year also focused on making his change and how classrooms could adapt. The school recently purchased an online management software system to help students and staff prepare for the computer rollout.

The Chromebook was chosen as the device due to its functionality, ease of management, and economical cost. It has no software, but provides an outlet to the Internet. Everything the staff and students use the computer for is readily available online.

Several meeting were held to answer questions for parents. If anyone has any further questions feel free to contact the high school.
