Adopt-a-Family for Christmas

The Northeast Tama Country Food Pantry will once again be sponsoring an “Adopt-a-Family” program this Christmas. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals and organizations to share with those who need help for Christmas. When you participate in the program, you will be assigned a family, knowing them by a number only. You will be given information about the number of people in the family, the ages of the children and whether they are a boy or girl, as well as sizes. The identities of our families are kept confidential.

If you would like to adopt a family, or know of someone who could use assistance from the food pantry, please call Becky Lassen at (319)476-3583. If you would like to be adopted, also call Lassen at the above number, no later than November 22, 2014.

Gifts for your adopted family should be taken to the Traer United Methodist Church on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 4:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. Adopted families must pick up their gifts and food baskets on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 10:00a.m. to 11:30a.m.

Please note that the deadline for families to register to be adopted is November 22, 2014.

The Food Pantry is also asking for your assistance with donations of money or personal hygiene items, and with help in identifying those in need. Monetary assistance is especially needed at this time to purchase food for the Food Pantry, for every $1 donated we can but approx. 4 meals on the table. The food pantry is able to purchase food at reduced price from the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, so donations of money will go further than actual food donations. This year items needed are: dish soap, bar soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, tooth paste, tooth brushes(children & adult), liquid hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant (Men’s & Women’s), Kleenex and personal care items.
