Gallaghers to host food bank benefit
The 7th Annual Different Drummers Wake, Jam & Food Bank Benefit will take place Saturday, November 22, 6 to 10 p.m., at Narey’s 19th Hole in Waterloo.
Created to honor passed area musicians, the event gathers artists and music lovers together to raise funds and food for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and celebrate the lives of those who entertained us with their songs.
This year’s benefit pays tribute to Robert R. “Bobby” Geiger, a beloved Iowa musician who was a guitar and mandolin picker with the Cosmobilly Band out of Jackson County. Born in Vinton in 1958, Bobby passed away April 28 at his home in Dyersville following a lengthy illness.
The event is being hosted by The Gallaghers, and features tHE eNABLERS from 6 to 10 p.m. Area and visiting musicians are invited to stop in and jam. Since its onset, the benefit has been an entertaining mix of music and memories spanning decades, with veteran musicians playing with a new generation of talent.
New this year is a silent auction, including artwork and other contributions by local artists and musicians. The artwork and bid sheets are on display at Narey’s in advance of the benefit. All proceeds from the auction go to the food bank.
Admission to the event is a donation of non-perishable food and/or money to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Donations are being accepted through November 22 at Narey’s, 2073 Logan Ave., Waterloo. For more information call 319-234-9739 or email dengreg2002@yahoo.com.
