One dead in hunting accident
Family, community members and students gathered Monday afternoon to grieve the loss of Liesel Casto, who was killed in a hunting accident Saturday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7:43 a.m. of a reported hunting accident in which three members of a family were preparing to go muzzleloader hunting for deer. A gun discharged and fatally injured Casto, age 12. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources assisted in investigating the incident, and Traer Ambulance personnel were also at the scene.
Liesel is the daughter of Joshua and Joie Casto, who operate the Casto Armory, and was active in shooting sports and the Tama County Young Guns.
