The Dysart Lions held their annual awards night and spouse/friend dinner on February 5 at the Dysart United Methodist Church Fellowship Room. District Governor Bill Pollard was the special guest for the evening and helped give out the awards to the 29 Lions that received perfect attendance pins.

One year awards were presented to: Linda Butler, Jim Davis, Erich Fuchs, Rhonda Lassen, Kathy Meyer, Gean Meyer, Ron Miller and Bill Raub. Two Year awards to: Stan Evans, Greg Lyons and Jerry Huffman. Three Year awards to: Rodger Aldrich and Richard Leipold. Four Year awards to: Daniel Hartwig and Kevin Lassen. The 26 Year award was presented to PDG Robert Degner. 41 Year award to Marvin Monroe and the last pin awarded was a 51 Year award to Don Lyons.

Following the attendance awards, club President Kevin Lassen and DG Bill Pollard presented the Lion of the Year award to Erich Fuchs. The entire club votes on Lion of the Year and Erich certainly deserved this award with all the service he has performed for the club. Erich is always in charge of the the weather at all fundraising events!

Sherry Lyons was presented the past presidents plaque and pin, and as she accepted her award, she stated it was a great honor to have been president of this club. She thanked all for helping make her year the great time it was. Sherry then presented Don Lyons a special plaque for his many years as Lions Club Secretary and thanked him for all the help he provided her while she was president. Sherry, after her turn as president, accepted the Zone Chairpersons office in DG Pollard’s cabinet and is in charge of visiting and helping the six Lions Clubs in Tama County and two other counties.

Don Lyons said the Warren Coleman Award was past due in being presented to a Lion who has served the club and his fellow man for many years. He then called Dwayne Luze to recieve the highest award the Iowa Lions can present to a member.

The Melvin Jones award is the Lions Club International Award which honors Melvin Jones, who is the founder of Lions Club International (1917). Like the Coleman award winner, the Jones award is selected by the board of directors of the Dysart Lions Club. This year’s winner was Sherry Lyons.

DG Pollard said he has one more award to present that no one knew about, reading a letter about the Progressive Melvin Jones Award. As he spoke, the Lyons brothers and three of the spouses all filed in and DG Bill called Don Lyons to come and receive this award. This is a very high honor and Don said he was beyond words to express his thanks for a Lion to make this award possible for him to have. With this award, the meeting came to close by President Lassen.
