UHS to present ‘Catch Me If You Can’

The Union High School Fine Arts Department under the direction of Tim J. Mitchell, Korina Carlson and Mike Bistline announce their upcoming production of the full scale musical hit, “Catch Me If You Can.” Based on the hit DreamWorks Motion Picture, starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DeCaprio and the incredible true story of Frank Abagnail Jr. , Catch Me If You Can, is the high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. Premiering on Broadway in April of 2011, it is believed that Union Community will be the first high school in the state of Iowa to produce this super energy packed show.

Seeking fame and fortune, precocious teenager Frank Abignale, Jr. runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank’s lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl pursues Frank across the country to make him pay for his crimes.

Many Broadway regulars are behind the creation of the musical. The book is by Terrence McNally who also wrote the book of Union’s 2014 production of “Ragtime”. Music and Lyrics are written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who also wrote the smash hit “Hairspray”.

A cast of 38 students will bring this production to life at the Matt Auditorium at 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday, March 20th and 21st. Reserved tickets from the production may be purchased at the Union High School office beginning Thursday, March 5th weekdays between the hours of 7:30am and 3:30pm. Cost of each seat is $5.00.
