Union Band members at NEIBA Solo Contest
Highly Superior Rating Award winners Carter Spore and Teagan Prouse.
Several Union Middle School Band members participated in the NEIBA Solo Ensemble Contest on March 12th, 2015. The contest was a great success. A white ribbon and a “Good” rating was awarded to 6th grader Layton Smutz for his trumpet solo, red ribbons and “Excellent” ratings were awarded to 6th graders Kylea Neuendorf on her alto saxophone solo, Sydney Bucknell on her alto saxophone solo, Ella Smith on her trumpet solo, 8th graders Hunter Klima and Nolan Wandschneider on their clarinet and alto saxophone duet, Rashawn Williams on his baritone solo, and Kody Crawford on his alto saxophone solo. Blue ribbons and “Superior” ratings were awarded to 6th graders Alex Hall on her alto saxophone solo, Sarah Roberts on her flute solo, Jacob Hill on his snare drum solo, Tyson Fleshner on his snare drum solo, Marcus Albertsen on his trombone solo, Clayton Loeb on his trumpet solo, Emma Deaton on her clarinet solo, 7th graders Carlie Hoppe on her alto saxophone solo, Aubrey Schmidt on her trumpet solo, Rachel Hellman on her clarinet solo, Rachel Kline on her flute solo, Leah Kaufman on her flute solo, 8th graders Trey Smutz on his bass clarinet solo, Hunter Stwalley on his tuba solo, Scarlett Ellsworth on her clarinet solo, Ben Rempe and Jacob Lowe on their snare drum duet, Valerie Ryan on her alto saxophone solo, Allie Carty and Megan Carty on their flute duet, and Karson Hennings on his trumpet solo. Two performances were chosen for the “Highly Superior” rating and awarded gold ribbons. Recipients of the Highly Superior ratings were 8th grade trombone player Carter Spore for his performance of “Shepherd’s Dance” by Edward German and 7th grade flute player Teagan Prouse for her performance of “Humoresque” by Antonin Dvorak. Bill Livingston judged the contest. Congratulations to all of these students on their successful performances.
