Dysart welcomes PetShed

Dysart would like to offer a warm welcome to the newest business in town! The PetShed LLC is owned and operated by Sue-Harris-Rutledge and is located at 504 Wilson Street. This used to be known as Amber’s Hair Design. Amber’s can now be found on Main Street, so be sure to stop by and check out their new location as well!

Sue and her family moved to Dysart around five years ago when they wanted to move out of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. They chose Dysart as their new home based on the community atmosphere and its school districts. Shortly after the Rutledges moved to Dysart, some of their extended family also moved to town because of how much Sue, her husband Dave, and two sons (Cody and Connor) enjoyed their new home.

Dave stays busy while working for Benton Concrete. Cody, the eldest of their children, graduated from Union last year and is currently attending Hawkeye Community College. Connor is in first grade this year at DG Elementary, but he stated he is VERY excited for second grade to start!

Sue has been in the pet grooming industry for over 10 years. While living in Waterloo, Sue began working at Pet Smart when it first opened. Originally she was not quite sure exactly which position she wanted to take on at PetSmart but she knew she wanted to work with animals, and everything just sort of fell into place from there.

After beginning her new job, Sue’s managers encouraged her to join the grooming salon and become a pet groomer. At first, Sue was hesitant and wasn’t sure if she could handle the task and commitment at that time in her life. This included leaving her family for four weeks and attending a training course. Sue decided to take the plunge, and alongside her good friend Ashley, they attended the four-week training and came back to Waterloo ready to tackle their new roles.

Sue continued to work at PetSmart for four years and then took a position at Pawsitive Pet Care in Waterloo. She was with Pawsitive for 8 years. She loved her job there, and made several wonderful connections and had many wonderful co-workers. As much as she loved her job there, she wanted to be able to be home with her family more. Being able to work in town will save countless hours of traveling and also expenses. Having her own salon here in town will allow Sue to have the wonderful family time and memories we all cherish so much.

Speaking of expenses although the family will be saving money by cutting out the commute, starting a business isn’t exactly cheap, as we all know! Sue has been working hard, gathering financial support and help to get her business up and running. Sue has been working with the Dysart DDC and actually recently won the Tama County Economic Pitch & Build in April.

Sue could not express enough gratitude and thanks towards the entire community, The Dysart Development Corporation, and so many of the local businesses. The PetShed is coming along nicely, with lots of hard work; she plans to be open by the middle of May at the latest. This is depending on when the department of agriculture can come to inspect the location, but by the end of the month your precious puppies will have a new wonderful spot just for them!

The Pet Shed will be offering several different services including a “Puppy Package” for those of you with new puppies in the home. This includes some regular cleaning and nail trimming, just to help get the puppy acquainted and ease it of any nervousness that it might have.

She will also offer full service grooming – including premium cuts, baths and blow-dries. Even if your dog does not need a regular haircut bring them on by for a little pampering! This will save you time and energy trying to bathe them and trim their nails! With such a wonderful service available right here Dysart why not take advantage of it and support a new and local business at the same time?

The PetShed LLC will be open Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:30 p.m. You can contact Sue anytime at (319) 486-5571 for any questions or booking inquiries. Welcome to Dysart, Sue and the PetShed! We are so glad to have another wonderful local business in our cherished little town.
