Former Garwin City Clerk Anna Lori Leytham remained in the Tama County Jail at noon, Saturday, July 4, on a reduced $40,000 cash bond amount.

Tama County District Court Judge Mitchell E. Turner reduced the bond amount from $400,000 cash or surety to $40,000 on Thursday. The higher amount had been set by Magistrate Ann Kuhter on June 16 at an initial appearance.

Leytham, 51, is accused of misappropriating some $562,000 in Garwin city funds while serving as city clerk over a 13-year period. She was arrested by the Tama County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents on June 16.

According to a report by State Auditor Mary Moisman, Leytham used credit cards and wrote personal checks to herself which were not authorized.
