UHS to compete in student food drive

The Union High School National Honor Society (UHS NHS) will again be competing in the Northeast Iowa Food Bank Student Food Drive. The Student Food Drive gives our students the opportunity to help their school and other groups in need in their community as well as promotes volunteerism and community involvement. The Student Food Drive lasts seven weeks and Union High School will be in direct competition with Hudson High School. Last year, UHS collected over 2,300 pounds of non-perishable food items and took second place behind Hudson High School. This year, the UHS needs your help!

Friday, October 2, 5:00 pm to kick-off Food Collection Drop-Off at Homecoming Football Game, Main Gate only

This does not affect gate admission and attendees are not required to donate. Although the Food Bank does not refuse any non-perishable food donations, their wish list items are the following: peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, potted meat product (like deviled ham), and canned fruit. Please do not donate any clothing, animal food, pop or bottled water.

Students at the high school will be taking part in other food-raising events including a competition between advisory groups, trivia contest at the Student Food Drive Kick-Off Event, and more.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is in Waterloo. The Food Bank services approximately 200 food pantries, community meals, soup kitchens, senior centers, low-income schools and daycares, and after school programs in sixteen northeast Iowa counties. Food collected from the Student Food Drive will be channeled back into participating communities through the Member Agency Distribution Program. Want to see more information?
