Home improvement scam in Tama County

Pictured here are Elvis Andy Ellison (above) along with Bobby James Allison (below left) and Tyson Allison (below right).

The Tama County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a group conducting home improvement scams over the last year in this area. As recently as December of 2015, members of this group have been active in Tama County.

The typical targets are the elderly. The “services” provided by the group are typically roofing, lightning rods, and sealcoating driveways.

Members of the group operate all over the Midwest, but they are based in Indiana. They have been known to drive pickup trucks with Montana or Iowa plates.

Elvis Andy Allison is currently using the name “Michael Shelton” and has a fraudulent Iowa ID in that name. His last known address was in Silver Lake, Indiana, but his whereabouts are currently unknown.

Allison has outstanding arrest warrants from a Tama County scam, and is a suspect in other cases in neighboring states. He was last seen in Tama County in December driving a charcoal gray pickup truck with a Scott County, Iowa plate. The truck has an unattached contractor-style toolbox in the back.

His relatives are also believed to be part of the scam: Tyson Allison and Bobby James Allison. Tyson also goes by Chris Thompson, Dustin Hanson, Jason Grooms and Bobby McDaniel among other less-than-ingenious aliases.

Anyone with information on these suspects is encouraged to contact Detective Bruce Rhoads of the Tama County Sheriff’s Office at (641) 484-3760 or email brhoads@so.tamacounty.org.
