Hora-Machacek holds work day

Hora-Machacek Auxiliary met on Wednesday, March 2nd at the post home in Clutier. Day started at 9am cleaning trellises and crosses which we use to decorate graves on Memorial day.

New poppies were put on and ribbons put on the trellises. Those helping were: Eileen Hora, Lillian Dostal, Martha Untiedt, Linda Dvorak, Pauline Sienknecht, Marcella Caslavka, Mary Seda, and Veronica Pavlicek. Delicious potluck at noon was enjoyed by all.

Monthly meeting started at 2:15pm and Marilyn Svoboda joined us. President Veronica conducted the meeting and called the roll. Last meetings minutes were read and approved.

Report provided by Treasurer Diane was given. Linda Dvorak made a motion to send a monetary thank you to Gary Proctor who had made our poppies. Seconded by Pauline Sienknecht and motion carried.

Our Girls State representative is Elizabeth Worthington. Bev has been notified that she is registered.

Veronica reported on the joint county meeting that was February 23rd at the pot home in Traer. Jolene reported that the IVH Christmas gift wrap was well attended to assist the residents with gift choices and mailing. Small boxes are needed next year. Jolene attended the Mid-Winter Conference in Des Moines February 12-14. It is reported that too many people do not know who the Legion Auxiliary is. It is suggested to wear our emblem when assembled to represent the Auxiliary. It is suggested to raise Iowa dues by $3 and Juniors by $2.50. This will be voted on at the next state convention in July and if approved would affect 2017-18 dues. There will be a Veterans Awareness Walk at the State Fair as part of the Veterans Parade at 10am on Monday, August 15th.. For $20 you get fair entry, yellow T-shirt but no parking. Entry blanks are on the posts bulletin board.

Foreign Food Fair at IVH is Saturday, March 19th. Our unit will be taking 6 dozen kolaches. Need volunteers to help residents through the line. Need to be at IVH at 10:30am as start serving at 11am to 1pm.

Tama County Government Day is Wednesday, April 13th at the Toledo Reinig Center. Worker, chaperons and guides arrive by 8am. Our unit to furnish 4 dozen cookies and 2 workers.

An honor flight for Viet Nam Vets is being organized. It will be Mary 24th. Contact Dick Baker at 319-476-7575 for information.

Upcoming events in April are: April 10th our units bake sale, April 16th 3rd District Conference in Parkersburg, and April 26th Joint County meeting in Elberon at 7pm. Our units next meeting is April 5th at 7pm at the Clutier post home.
