93rd McNamee Reunion held in Dysart
The 93rd annual McNamee Reunion was held at Dysart Community Building on Sunday, June 5th. Forty-four descendents of the original McNamees who came from Ohio in the late 1900’s were in attendance. There were 15 from the George McNamee family, 28 from the Amor McNamee family and one from the Jim McNamee family. We had the opportunity to meet many cousins who had never been to this reunion and who had never been to Iowa. They all thought it was very “green”. We enjoyed returning to this newly-renovated comfortable building this year. Several who had not attended for many years remembered climbing on the water tower and cannon, jumping off the large stairs in the front, and hearing the whistle blow at noon from when they were young.
A delicious potluck was enjoyed by all, followed by the annual business meeting. The meeting was opened with the singing of “America” with Reda Charmichael as pianist, and Acting President Bob Junge presided. The secretary’s report was given by Secretary, Colleen Foss, and Treasurer Pam Whitmore gave the treasurer’s report. The meeting was closed by singing “God Be With You Till We Meet Again” with Reda Charmichael again playing.
Entertainment was provided by Carol Hoing from Casa Grande, Arizona, who performed a hilarious pantomime to Patsy Cline’s “I’ve Got Your Picture”.
After the meeting the guests enjoyed desserts and home-made ice cream which was brought by Kenny Bahr. They reminisced, took pictures, told stories, and looked at picture albums and record books from previous reunions.
Next year’s reunion will again be at the Dysart Community Building on the first Sunday in June which will be June 4th.
Those attending were from Independence, Buckingham, Mt. Auburn, Hudson, Toledo, Tama, Vinton, Waterloo, La Porte City, Cedar Falls, Marshalltown, North English, and Ankeny as well as from Casa Grande, Peoria, and Surprise, all in Arizona.
