Bolin honored with Yard of the Month award
The Dysart Development Corporation has given the prestigious Yard of the Month award for June to Marlys Bolin at 906 Iowa Street. Bolin credits the perfectly manicured yard to her children (Mike and Michele) who have been taking care of the yard while she is fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Bolin and her late husband built their home in 2001, and in 2011 purchased additional backyard property from a neighbor. At 175′ x 220′, the yard is vast and also provides a beautiful oasis to view from the comfort of the patio deck or four seasons room.
Shortly after the land purchase in 2011, several trees were lost in the derecho wind storm which caused destruction throughout Dysart. It required a lot of work in addition to what already needed to be done to clean up the yard at the time of purchase.
The entire yard had to be killed off and reseeded due to Creeping Charlie, and overgrown flower beds had to be removed or cleaned up. Bolin created a yard that had an open concept which is easy to care for.
Today, the flower beds are tastefully decorated with just the right amount of garden ornaments, many of which have a special meaning to Bolin. There are three memory trees planted to honor her late husband, son, and brother.
Whether you’re taking a break from the sun while sitting at the picnic table under a tree, or enjoying an evening fire-pit bonfire while seated in a comfortable red Adirondack chair, there is beauty to be seen everywhere in the yard. Be sure to wish Marlys Bolin & her family a well-deserved congratulation when you see them around town!
