Dysart wins All-Star Community Award

The Iowa League of Cities recognized the city of Dysart as a 2016 People’s All-Star Community at the League’s Annual Conference & Exhibit, which was held in Des Moines from September 14-16.

In August, the League named Asbury, Clinton and Malvern as All-Star Communities after a panel of judges evaluated applications based on innovative efforts in areas such as urban renewal, development, preservation, collaborative efforts or quality of life improvements.

Beginning August 8, a second round of judging began on Facebook to determine the winner of the People’s All-Star Community. Dysart was among 10 communities to compete in the head-to-head, bracket-style competition.

Dysart entered their Community Building renovation project into the All-Star Community Award competition. Their 1937 Community Building was in need of updating to address accessibility to the second floor ballroom, and to bring the restrooms on both levels into ADA compliance. While maintaining the character of the building the city used grants, fundraising and city funds to update the building’s foyer, kitchen ballroom and more!
