Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9-15

Fire Prevention Week 2016 will be held from October 9-15 this year with lots of local activities!

On Tuesday, October 11 at 9:15 a.m., 3 year-olds from Raggedy Ann & Andy Preschool will be at the fire station. The 4- and 5-year-olds will meet at the station on Friday, October 14 at 9:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. The kids will learn some of the basics like not to play with fire and how to “stop, drop, & roll.” The kids will also have the opportunity to see the fire trucks.

There will be a fire drill at The Playhouse on Tuesday the 11th at 12:30 p.m., as well as a fire drills at Union Middle School and D-G Elementary at 1 p.m. Kindergarten students will get fire truck rides, and third graders will get a ride back to the fire station to do a classroom talk and view the equipment.

All grades and staff will receive candy and a pencil. D-G Elementary Preschool and Raggedy Ann & Andy Preschoolers will receive stickers and a fireman’s hat. Playhouse students will receive Sparky’s Coloring Book. Kindergarteners through third graders will also receive goodies!

On Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., Operation EDITH will commence. This is the time to plan escape routes with family members, test smoke alarms, check fire extinguishers and make sure all family members know how to use them. Be sure to turn on your front porch light when your family has performed these tasks so fireman can include you in their count.
