Fall Festival planned for October 8 at Otter Creek Park

On Sunday, October 8, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Tama County Conservation Board will be hosting a fun and interesting Fall Festival celebration. The event will be hosted at the Tama County Nature Center, Otter Creek Lake and Park. The day’s festivities are offered free of charge.

The event will offer an enjoyable afternoon at your park, Otter Creek Lake and Park. A variety of demonstrations, programs, and hands-on opportunities are planned for the day making it a “don’t miss” family friendly event.

Some interesting programs will greet guests to the Tama County Nature Center. Carly Rae Vannoy, Iowa’s Honey Queen, will be providing an interesting program on bee keeping basics and the important role honeybees play in Iowa.

Folks from the Entomology Department at Iowa State University will be bringing their “Insect Zoo” to the Nature Center. They will be bringing fifteen species of arthropods to spice up their talk. At the end of the presentation there will be time for some hands-on interaction with the insects.

The demonstrations will allow you to learn from local residents that are active in various outdoor activities. These folks will share their love of the outdoors, how they got started and how they enjoy the activities they participate in.

Some of the hands-on activities will include: archery, air rifle shooting, making your own apple cider, and a craft station for the kids. Who knows, your child may come home with a nature tattoo.

A mini- marketplace will be set up in the Nature Center parking lot where you can purchase something delicious to eat. This will be a fun opportunity to have lunch or grab a snack at your Nature Center. On the menu will be walking tacos, hot dogs, polish sausage, hand breaded tenderloins along with kolaches, scotcheroos, and kettlecorn.
