Club Dysart prepared for 4th of July

Club Dysart’s Annual 4th of July Celebration is just around the corner and organizers feel ready this season for the flood of visitors expected to grace the town that Thursday.

“4th of July is always a great time for Dysart,” Amanda Schneider, President of Club Dysart said. “There’s something for everyone from the inflatables to the food. Everyone works together to put on a great event and it’s fun to see it pull off each year.

Festivities will kick off on July 3 with the Lions Club serving their popular tenderloins in the park starting at 5:00 p.m. until supplies last. Patrons still hungry for dessert can pick up floats and sundaes from a stand put on by the Little Knights Learning Center open at the same time. The beer garden will also be available that evening alongside the beginning of the slow-pitch softball tournament. A kiddie parade will march down Main Street beginning at 6:00 p.m. Country music artist Cody Hicks will provide the tunes for the Fireman’s Dance from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

The 4th of July kicks off with a 5K Run/Walk at 8:00 a.m. and the grand parade at 10:30 a.m. Inflatable rides will be open at noon in the park as a plethora of events begin. The Dysart Swim team will host their cake walk near the shelter starting starting at 1:00 p.m. and the cornhole/bags tournament will be held at the gazebo at the same time. A kiddie tractor pull and Boy Scouts bingo will begin at 2:00 p.m. For those looking to show off singing, dancing or unique talent, a talent show will be hosted at 5:00 p.m. at the gazebo. Raffle drawings will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the popular egg toss will start at 8:00 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark with a rain date of July 5.

“Are goal every year is to get volunteers lined up for all events and I believe we have all our slots filled up right now,” Schneider said. “Normally, it’s a scramble the week of, so that’s definitely an improvement. Cody Hicks has quite a following, so we’re really hoping to have a lot of people come out for that show.”

For those looking for something different this year, Meat Wagon BBQ from Vinton will be serving on Saturday. Families can enjoy a demonstration by the Union robotics team on Saturday. The Dysart Ambulance will be showing their new equipment this year. For the kids, new inflatables will be available at the park beginning at noon.

With any major events, planning takes a coordinated effort. Club Dysart in the months leading up to the 4th work to arrange tents set up, have port-a-potties ready and sometimes with new people taking up these positions they are unfamiliar with the work. Finding enough volunteers to make the festivities happen is a struggle each year according to Schneider, but steps taken by the group this year have helped.

“This year, we’ve been trying to get our notice of meetings out sooner for the community, posting on Facebook more,” Schneider said. “We’ve added new members, set up committees to take on different areas like food, drink and entertainment. I feel all of this early organization has helped things planned easier. We have a group of consistent members who come and remind each other of things that need to get done.”
