Buzzer beater drops boys
Bridger Claassen’s tip-in beat the buzzer and North Tama as GMG took the rubber match with the Redhawks in Friday’s Class 1A District 4 quarterfinal at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School.
GMG led by as many as 17 points until North Tama (7-14) came back to take a 47-45 lead into the fourth. The Redhawks held a one-point advantage but couldn’t expand upon it when Taylor Dinsdale missed the front end of a one-and-one free-throw chance.
GMG rebounded the miss and took a timeout with 16 seconds left to set up the final play. Austin Vaughn’s jumpshot missed its mark, but Claassen came to the rescue for the game-winning putback at the buzzer.
North Tama sophomore Ben Panfil matched his career-high with 20 points, while Paul Kaufmann finished with 16 points. Logan Zobel added 10 points as the Redhawks lost their fourth straight to end the season.
