It was a hard fought night of basketball in the Redhawks Nest last Tuesday, Dec. 7 as both the North Tama girls and boys teams hosted GMG. The girls ultimately came up short in their loss 52-45 to the Wolverines, while the North Tama boys locked in a win, 77-72.

Under Head Coach Shawn Larmore’s direction, the North Tama girls basketball team gave it their all against GMG – working the hardwood to the bitter end after leading much of the first two quarters. The Redhawks were up at halftime, 25-22.
Freshman guard Ava Breakenridge was the offensive leader with 15 points, followed by freshman forward Briar Blake with nine points, senior guard Aubree Monat with eight points, senior forward Mya Sierra with six points, and sophomore guard Izzy Hallett with four points.
Monat led the defense with seven steals and eight rebounds (seven defensive) for the Redhawks. Blake contributed 12 rebounds and Sierra recorded nine – each also had a steal a piece.

North Tama turned the ball over 29 times during the course of the game to the Wolverines’ 30 turnovers.
The Redhawks attempted 23 3-pointers – sinking just two, both belonging to Ava Breakenridge – but the Wolverines only made one out of nine attempts.
Ultimately, the Wolverines simply proved more accurate with their field goal attempts as the teams were fairly evenly matched otherwise throughout the game.
Later in the week, on Friday, Dec. 10 the girls beat Colo-Nesco on the road 34-20, but lost in a Saturday game to BCLUW 59-37.
The North Tama girls were 1-4 for the season heading into their Tuesday, Dec. 14 game at home against Collins-Maxwell (4-2) which they dropped to the Spartans 49-25.

The Redhawks are next set to play Friday, Dec. 17 on the road against the Baxter Bolts. The Bolts were undefeated (5-0) heading into their Tuesday night match-up with Meskwaki.
North Tama Boys
The North Tama boys took on GMG as well in a compelling match-up that started out hot and never let up.
In the end, the Redhawks edged the Wolverines 77-72 thanks to an impressive 38 points put up by senior guard Gabe Kopriva – 10 of those shots being 3-pointers – and 18 points from senior center Thomas Hulme.
Hulme had his work cut out for him most of the night in the form of GMG’s senior forward Abe Dieleman who seemed to have at least a couple inches over the 6 foot 5 inch tall Hulme. Dieleman spent much of the night under the Redhawks’ net batting away shots.

The Redhawks defense returned 33 rebounds – 11 by senior forward Adam Greiner and nine by Hulme, while the offense snagged 14 rebounds – seven by Hulme.
Later in the week, on Friday, Dec. 10 they lost to Colo-Nesco on the road 61-56 and again to BCLUW, 67-56, in a Saturday game on the road.
