Redhawk baseball leads off 2022 season with trio of wins

With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth against the BCLUW Comets on May 20 at home, Redhawks starting pitcher Gabe Kopriva winds up before striking out the final batter of the inning. Kopriva led the team on Friday evening to its third win of the season, beating the Comets 8-1. Against BCLUW, Kopriva pitched six and ⅔ innings, striking out 10 batters, walking two, and hitting one. He gave up just one run on six hits including two doubles. The game opened with Kopriva throwing a 1-2-3 inning. Earlier in the week, the Redhawks opened their 2022 season on Monday, May 16 on the road with a win, 7-4, over English Valleys, followed by a win, 9-8, on Tuesday at home against Gladbrook-Reinbeck. -Photo by Soren M. After stealing second, Redhawks senior Devin McKinley rounds third base en route to scoring on a hit by Gabe Kopriva in the bottom of the sixth on Friday, May 20, at home against the BCLUW Comets. McKinley’s run brought the score to 7-1 after which Kopriva scored the final run of the evening on a wild pitch. This week the Redhawks are set to face Columbus Catholic and MFL MarMac on Monday, May 23, in a doubleheader at Waterloo Riverfront Stadium, followed by a home game against GMG on Wednesday. -Photo by Soren M.
