Knights blown away by Cyclones, 42-7

Union Knights football is now 0-2 on the season after suffering a tough road loss, 42-7, to conference rival, Class 1A No. 11 Denver last week after losing to No. 8 Aplington-Parkersburg the week prior in their home opener.

The Cyclones came out blazing Friday night, running the score up 22 points in the first quarter. Union would not answer with a touchdown of their own until the final quarter – ran in by sophomore running back Hunter Anderson.

The Knights’ passing game was decidedly lackluster with starting quarterback, sophomore Andrew Sadler making contact with his receivers just three out of 15 times. But Union did manage to carry the ball 137 yards total with players Logan Rosauer, Joren Fisher, Tyler Wilson, and Anderson putting in the yardage.

While the Knights’ defense notched 56 tackles led by sophomore Briar Mast with 11 (nine solo), it wasn’t enough to stop the Cyclones brutal running game – a whopping 327 yards across 52 carries.

This Friday, the Knights will face unranked Center Point-Urbana (1-1) on the road. The Stormin Pointers single win thus far was against Vinton-Shellsburg, 34-7, last week. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Center Point.
