Knights earn a road win over J-Hawks, 54-19

Union Knights football earned a much-need win last Friday, Sept. 23, during a district road game against Jesup — felling the J-Hawks 54-19.

The Knights’ rushing game was the highlight of the offense with senior Joren Fisher putting in the work and then some, carrying the ball 26 times for 301 yards and six touchdowns — including a 69- yard run to the end zone. Senior Tyler Wilson carried the ball 16 times for 84 yards and one touchdown; sophomore Hunt- er Anderson carried the ball six times for 54 yards; starting quarterback Andrew Sadler kept the ball four times for 20 yards; juniors Caleb Olson and Lo- gan Rosauer each lugged the ball twice.

Sadler completed five of his eight pass attempts, connecting with three of his receivers including Fisher three times for 25 yards, Rosau- er once for 41 yards, and sophomore Justice Luke once for 31 yards.

Brock Ruzicka added four PATs and Fisher was good for one 2-point conversion.

On defense, the Knights racked up 46 tackles among 17 players including defensive leaders, juniors Ryan Devries and Ruzicka who each notched six tackles (five solo). Fisher — clearly the MVP of the game for Union — intercepted the J-Hawks twice for an additional three yards.

This Friday, the Knights (1-4) will face the Oelwein Huskies (2-3) in a Homecoming matchup in Class 2A District 4 action. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Union Stadium.
