It was another tough loss for the North Tama football team this past Friday in St. Ansgar, where the Redhawks lost to the host Saints in shutout fashion, 42-0, putting the team’s record at 1-4 on the season.

The Redhawks were unable to mount an effective defense against the Saints — a team that boasts a heftier roster in terms of both numbers and size. The Saints scored two touchdowns in the first quarter followed by three more in the second. St. Ansgar recorded one final touchdown in the fourth.

Defensively, the Redhawks managed 41 total tackles across a dozen players with senior Logan Siemens — a reliable player both defensively and offensively this season for North Tama — leading the way with 11 total (six solo). Junior Ryan Hosek recovered a Saints fumble.

On offense, North Tama logged 127 yards across 14 passes — all but one pass originating with starting quarterback Kolt Knaack — to St. Ansgar’s measly 26 yards on three completions. Knaack and Michael Schrier (with one pass) connected with four receivers including Josh Dostal, who successfully caught the ball six times for 93 yards.

The Redhawks’ rushing game was slim with Knaack carrying 12 times for 21 yards and Michael Schrier three times for a loss of two yards.

It was the Saints’ rushing game that powered all four quarters — 256 yards across 40 carries.

This Friday, North Tama will face the BCLUW Comets (3-2) in a Homecoming matchup in Class A District 3 play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Dennis Field.
