Redhawk girls handcuffed by Baxter

The North Tama girls’ basketball team was limited to a season-low scoring night in a 61-7 Iowa Star Conference South Division loss to Baxter on Friday, Jan. 27.

The host Bolts (13-3, 10-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter and cruised to the victory.

Kruiz Ewoldt, Izzy Hallett and Gabby Velasco scored field goals for North Tama (6-11, 5-7), with Ewoldt making 1-of-2 free throws to lead the team with three points. Ava Breakenridge, Jamie Jacobs and Lydia Taylor led the Redhawks with three rebounds apiece, but the team couldn’t overcome 34 turnovers.

Emie Tuhn made six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points off the bench for Baxter. Mandee Selover added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Bolts.

Bolts’ fast start sinks North Tama boys

The North Tama boys’ basketball team fell behind by 12 points after the opening quarter and couldn’t make it up, falling 83-64 to Iowa Star Conference South Division leader Baxter on Jan. 27.

Jared Dvorak made five 3-pointers on his way to a team-leading 25 points for North Tama (5-12, 4-8). Josh Dostal had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Chaz Hall added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Redhawks.

Treyton Travis scored 25 points off the bench to lead Baxter (14-1, 10-0). Carson Scroggins added 21 points, Cody Damman had 12 points and Trice Clapper 10 for the Bolts.
