The Union boys basketball team finished the 2022-23 season on a high note, reaching the substate semifinal and earning the second most wins (10-15) in a season since 2008-09.

Union faced Hudson (18-6) last Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the final round of Class 2A District 6 play. While the Knights lost to the Pirates 79-54, it was the furthest a Union team has advanced in the postseason since 2008-09.

After beating East Marshall at home in the first round by a razor thin 73-72, the Knights moved on and did the same against Grundy Center, besting the Spartans 65-57 on the road Feb. 17.

In the substate semifinal against Hudson which was played at Dike-New Hartford High School, Union junior Jackson Anderson led the offense with 25 points including two 3-pointers. Freshman Cade Sorensen contributed eight points, two assists, and two steals, while senior Ty Lorenzen had five points and four assists.

On defense, junior Logan Rosauer led the team with six rebounds.

Three seniors played their final high school game in Dike including Lorenzen, Tyler Clapp, and Brady Spence with Clapp notching four points against the Pirates.

Four of the five Knights starters this season were underclassmen including Sorensen, Anderson, Mason Mullen, and Rosauer. All four are set to return next year, giving Union boys basketball a great shot at making it even farther next postseason.
