Redhawk runners win two Iowa Star titles

MESKWAKI — BCLUW’s track and field teams claimed both team titles in the 15-team fields at the Iowa Star Conference Meet at Meskwaki Settlement School last Thursday night.

The BCLUW boys scored 144 points to beat out Baxter for the top spot; the Comet girls racked up 115.75 points to finish ahead of Collins-Maxwell scoring 91.25.

In the boys races, BCLUW won nine events. GMG’s boys scored 33 points for 10th place. North Tama’s boys scored 10 points for 13th and Meskwaki was 15th with five points.

For the Comet girls, BCLUW won the 4X4 and 4X8 relays but also scored double team points in several events, including 2-3 finishes in the 800, 3,000, and shot put.

North Tama’s girls scored 44.5 points in eighth. The Redhawks won the distance medley and senior Grace Lidgett added an individual title in the 1,500. GMG was 12th with 20 points and Meskwaki was 14th with six points.

Redhawk runners are set to compete Thursday, May 11 in the Class 1A state qualifier at Belle Plaine where they will face athletes from Belle Plaine, Calamus-Wheatland, Central City, Don Bosco, English Valleys, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Iowa Valley, Midland, North Cedar, North Linn, Springville, Valley Lutheran, and Waterloo Christian.

Qualifiers will advance to the 2023 Iowa High School Track and Field Championships set for May 18-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
