Trio of area girls golf teams to regional final

North Tama just misses cut

Three area girls golf teams qualified for regional finals in Class 1A and 2A after high finishes at regional first-round tournaments on Friday.

Regional finals for all four classes are scheduled for Wednesday, May 17; golf teams in Class 3A and 4A do not play regional first-round meets.

West Marshall was second on its home course at Lincoln Valley in State Center with a team score of 367, dropping a fifth-golfer tiebreaker to Denver. Allie Pfantz was the individual medalist with a 83 and Ella Meyer added an 84 for runner-up honors. The Trojans will compete in the Region 4 final at Stone Creek Golf Club in Williamsburg.

Grundy Center hosted a 1A regional first-round meet, winning the team race with a 336 team score. BCLUW also advanced on with a 379 team score as runners-up.

The Spartans had their top four finish in the top six individuals, led by medalist Abbie Lindeman with a 78 and runner-up Brylee Hoeg shooting a 79. Avery Dirks and Leah Larson added 83 and 96, respectively. The Comets had two in the top six — Brooklynn Backoff shot an 87 and Lindsay Beeghly carded an 88. Grundy Center and BCLUW will compete at the Region 3 final at Diamond Trail Golf Course in Lynnville.

North Tama was fourth at Grundy Center with a 448 team score, 22 strokes behind third place and the last regional final qualifier Colfax-Mingo. Gladbrook-Reinbeck shot a 516 team score for fifth place.
