Knights keep pace with Rebels, fall just shy
LA PORTE CITY — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck baseball team broke a 5-all tie in the top of the seventh inning to beat Union 6-5 in last Tuesday’s (June 20) North Iowa Cedar League contest.
Knight Sawyer Spence finished 2-for-4 with a single and a double plus two RBIs, while teammate Sam Fehl went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Mason Mullen also notched an RBI with a double.
Ethan Winnike pitched five innings against the Rebels, striking out five while allowing eight hits, five runs (three earned), walking two, and hitting three batters. Sam Fehl pitched two innings of relief, striking out two and allowing two hits and one run.
Heading into the week of June 26, the Knights (6-17) were set to face Grundy Center on the road Tuesday, followed by Alburnett (18-14) at home on Thursday before traveling to Hudson (15-9) on Saturday, July 1 to take on the Pirates in the first round of the Class 2A postseason.
